Few things in this world are more limiting than not possessing the ability to read. No area of a person’s life is untouched. Being able to get and hold a job, reading a permission slip for a child’s field trip, understanding the directions on a prescription bottle – just a few of the many things compromised by the inability to read.
According to the National Center for Education Statistics, Calhoun County has, at a minimum, 10,800 adults who do not read at the basic level.
The Calhoun County Literacy Initiative is taking steps to impact this problem locally and we need your help.
Join us Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Riverside Golf Club for a wonderful evening called “Read Between the Wines.” Our signature fundraising event will include local celebrities reading excerpts from their favorite authors, a silent auction, great music and delicious appetizers.
All proceeds will benefit the work of the Calhoun County Literacy Initiative as we train volunteer tutors, set up Community Literacy Center sites, and move teens and adults who are struggling to read toward greater self-sufficiency.
Individual tickets are $20.00. Table sponsorships are available for $250, $500, $750 and $1000. Please join us in helping to ‘move the needle’ on the level of literacy in our community!
The Calhoun County Literacy Initiative is a program of E3 Achievement and has a Community Project Fund at the Battle Creek Community Foundation.
Supporters also include the Binda Foundation, Kalamazoo Literacy Council, and the Regional Prosperity Initiative.
